A Women’s Flora by Piper Gilson explores Solanum Laciniatum (known as Kangaroo Apple) which stands alone in Wadawurrung country, signifying the strength of one women and that women's connection to women's business.
A single flower with its fruits, a single women with her strengths. Painted with acrylic paint and gesso medium to create the raised structure, almost like a clipping of the plant is attached to the canvas itself in a larger scale.
A women's flora is an important piece that expresses my inner appreciation for the lands and spirit, as women have many spiritual experiences throughout one's life, and any experience relating to women is our business, therefore I believe when expressed via artwork, can leave an impression on our graditude.
Country has been represented with wool and acrylic yarn hand stitched onto the canvas. I invite viewers to explore the physicality of mediums expressed through this piece.
